The Dark Side
a light and shadow study
I have the 3 original pieces in my studio, which is also my garage.
One night as I pulled my car into the studio, I noticed the shadows of the snowflowers moved as the headlights approached.
Thinking back to my Art Education days, I decided to do a Light and Shadow study surrounding them.
First, I decided in order to complete the study, I would need to backlight them adding another dimension to the study. While looking for bulbs to use, I found color changing bulbs I was able to install.
And then I started taking photos as the bulbs changed color. The shadows became the colors of the backlighting and became their own part of each piece and yet were still maintained their own identity.
The final addition to the study is that the bulbs I installed are speaker bulbs. So I can play music through them.
The Lighting reacts to the music playing and I can control the positioning of the shadows with my flashlight.
Check out the video at the bottom.
I cannot provide Snowflowers with this backlighting, as it involved minor construction in my wall.
But I thought this was worth sharing.
